Dear readers,
I hope this first newsletter under my tenure finds you well! I am writing to you as Austria's new Ambassador to the United Kingdom, a role I took on last August and into which I have been warmly welcomed.
My first few months have already been quite busy with visits from the Austrian Minister of Finance, Magnus Brunner, and the visit of Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg, as well as the traditional party conferences and the normal political and diplomatic frenzy of the autumn period.
A personal highlight was, of course, the presentation of my letter of credence to His Majesty the King. You can read more about this royal encounter below.
Our work with our British partners shows no signs of deceleration and I look forward to collaborating on the many priorities we have in terms of our bilateral relations in the coming years, with a particular emphasis on our intercultural relations and cooperation in the areas of security and migration. The Joint Vision Statement signed by Foreign Secretary Lord David Cameron and Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg on 20 November will guide these activities for the coming years.
For now, let me wish you a peaceful and merry festive season and a few relaxing days with family and friends.
Bernhard Wrabetz, Austrian Ambassador to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland
